President’s Address

Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends,

Welcome to the official website of the Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (Singapore) (SRMS).

It is with great honour and humility that I assume the role of the third President of the Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (Singapore). Since its inauguration in 2006 under the visionary leadership of our founding President, Dr Peter Lim, SRMS has gone from strength to strength. I am privileged to receive the baton from Dr Wee Tze Chao, our second President, whose steadfast dedication and leadership have further advanced the Society’s mission. Following in the footsteps of these esteemed predecessors is both a profound inspiration and a formidable responsibility — a legacy I am committed to upholding with purpose and resolve.

Over the past decade, the rehabilitation landscape has evolved significantly. The COVID-19 pandemic was a stark reminder of the essential role rehabilitation plays within the broader healthcare ecosystem, underscoring the urgency of the WHO’s Rehabilitation 2030 initiative launched in 2017. Today, we stand at a pivotal juncture, where rapid advancements in innovation, technology, and medical science are reshaping the way we deliver care. As practitioners, we must adapt and respond proactively to these changes, embracing new opportunities to advance rehabilitation as a vital pillar of health and well-being.

SRMS aims to be a dynamic platform where rehabilitation professionals can connect, collaborate, and grow. We are dedicated to promoting excellence in rehabilitation practice, research, and education amidst this ever-changing landscape. I warmly invite all members — whether you are at the beginning of your professional journey or a seasoned practitioner — to engage actively with the Society. Your voices, ideas, and experiences are essential as we work together to build a more inclusive, innovative, and resilient rehabilitation community in Singapore.

Let us continue to advocate for our patients, elevate our profession, and inspire one another — together.

Warmest regards,
Dr Tham Shuen-Loong
President
Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (Singapore)
